Meeting Minutes, November 8th , 2011

 

I. Call to Order, 7:02pm

 

II. Roll Call,

  1. Erin Reilly, Scott Barrett, Alex, Debra Schwitzer, Mahzi Malcolm, Rodolfo Finnocchi, excused absences
  2. Alexsa Olekhnovich, unexcused absence

 

III. Minutes

IV. Executive Officer Reports

I. Executive President: Ardi Mendoza

  1. Exec board is having lunch date with Daniels and Minor next Wednesday. We set the agenda with Dean Boswell this past Wednesday. They are interested in hearing our ideas on security and opening a discussion on what we would like to see in the future. The administration wants to know our ideas for distributing this information as well.
    1. If you have something you would like to have brought up, meet with me and we can discuss!
    2. I am meeting with Nick Trenton and Ed Skrodzki discussing plans for a Student Union.
    3. I am having lunch with Sarah Steinberg on November 15th

 

II. Executive Vice President: Wyatt Larkin

  1. Student Union Project: We will be mentioning it to the President and Provost at our upcoming meeting. We will be developing a more specific proposal to show them in the spring.

III. Executive Treasurer: Joanna Gawlik

  1. Budget numbers are the same
  2. Kirk and I met with Hannah Hasan McDonald about the Off-Campus Housing Database. We plan on changing the name so that students are aware that there is a reviewing component

 

IV. Executive Secretary: Annie Scavelli

  1. Minutes are on the website!
  2. E-mail me more ideas about criticism of my.jhu and ISIS for the meeting with the Deans.

VI. Committee Reports

 

I. Academic Affairs: Alexandra Larsen (given by Stephanie Geller)

  1. Meeting with Dean Conley this week!

 

II. Appointments and Evaluations: Mimi Gu

  1. We have 18 groups pending approval- to be announced next Tuesday!

 

III. Finance: Merrill Anovick

  1. We approved the spending for the Barstool Tour. He said it would be possible to set it up this semester either December 1st or 2nd. It is more likely we will do it in the beginning of next semester.
  2. If you have an idea for a venue, please let me know!

 

IV. Campus Safety and Development: Nick Trenton

  1. Thanks for coming to the Neighborhood Walk! It went great.
  2. Mattin Markets: Moses Song. Food has been ordered for 400 people as well as rubber ducks and pencils. It will be on November 16th
  3. Ardi, Alex Dash, and I are going to be meeting regarding the ice rink in the next week.
  4. I need volunteers for Breezeway promotions tomorrow, Thursday, next Wednesday, and next Thursday. One or two of them may turn into Levering days. They will be between 10am and noon on these days.

 

V. Student Services: Kirk Sabnani

  1. Joanna and I met with Hannah Hasan McDonald, pushing the OCHD on juniors and seniors.
  2. Nick, Ed Scrodzki, and I will be meeting this next week.
  3. We may JHED authentication ready for the online taxi share program. It may be pushed back to Christmas, in order to make sure it is properly advertised before launching.
  4. Library Chargers: the library administrators are having a meeting this week to work out the kinks and they should be implemented soon.
  5. Meeting with Steve Hellen, leader of Academic Technology. Let me know if you have any points to bring up to him.
  6. IT non-intentionally switched our domain this past week. I am looking for someone to take on these responsibilities for next year. Tell me if you’re interested!
  7. iPhone app update: Meetings are Tuesday at 11pm. We reviewed Josh, Nash, and I’s proposal, adding new features and specifications.

 

VI. Sustainability Committee: Michael St. Germain

  1. We will be meeting next week.
  2. We are discussing how blue lights can be better put in campus areas where safety has been an issue.

 

VII. Class Council Reports

 

I. Senior Class President: Luke Sand

  1. Ordered mugs for Lighting of the Quad tomorrow
  2. Senior Breakfast at FFC after class registration.
  3. Pub Night, December 3rd
  4. Our Wine and Food night sign up went amazingly! A lot of people signed up very quickly.

 

II. Junior Class President: Alexandra Larsen

  1. Sushi Night will be soon! We are trying to figure out a venue other than Nolan’s.
  2. Noshavember is going great! A lot of participation.
  3. December 2nd: Hot Apple Cider and Christmas cookies on the Breezeway.

 

III. Sophomore Class President: Merrill Anovick

  1. All sophomores are individually meeting with Provost Minor.
  2. Gingerbread Event in progress.
  3. White out formal with the Freshman class to happen in December.

IV. Freshman Class President: Josh Goodstein

  1. Coffee and Donuts on November 12th free for Freshman
  2. Extra cameras have been placed in the FFC. Now, backpacks can be brought in there.

 

VIII. Open Discussion

I. Ardi Mendoza

  1. The meeting with Steinberg will be discussing what she will be presenting at our meeting on November 29th. Her ideas on improving student life will be the main topic

 

II. Hopkins Top Model

  1. Stephanie Geller: Can we have a representative?
  2. Monday, November 21st
  3. Ardi Mendoza is our representative!

 

III. Security Issues

  1. Ardi Mendoza: What are some relevant pedestrian and safety issues?
  2. Michael St. Germain: We are trying to get appropriate blue light distribution on campus.
  3. Alex Dash: How can we better persuade Ed Scrodzki, based on the issues we ourselves feel?
  4. Wyatt Larkin: One thing specifically, the blue light has been approved by the Baltimore Museum of Art. Our security meeting with Daniels and Minor will be discussing such issues.
  5. Alex Schupper: I think that dorm security should be looked into as well.
  6. Maaiz Kahn: We have to keep campus locations particularly safe, as well as off-campus housing.
  7. Ben Googe: It is unacceptable for people to get robbed right on campus. The closer the campus, the more secure it should be
  8. Moses Song: The street behind the Ambassador has no lights around it!
  9. Ardi Mendoza: Please meet with me if you would like to discuss ideas further regarding lighting, pedestrian safety, and personal safety.

IV. Football Game Tailgate: E-mail by Erin Reilly read by Ardi Mendoza

  1. The plans are tentative to next week’s game results.
  2. BBQ will occur beforehand.
  3. Students will swipe in their JCARD.
  4. Upperclassmen with no meal plans will be paid for by the university
  5. Custom tattoos will be ordered.
  6. If this does happen, all of us should be at the event and preparing!

 

X. Announcements

 

  1. Moses Song: Mattin Markets November 16th! Also, thanks for coming to SLAM show!
  2. Lighting of the Quad is November 30th!
