[DATE]

Dear Students,

Has the value of your textbooks decreased by more than 70% in the last 3 months? Of course not – but these are types of prices you’ll receive from Barnes and Noble for the books you bought in February. Barnes and Noble buys back used textbooks for an extremely small percentage of their purchase price, holds these books over the summer, and then sells these books for roughly 85 to 90% of the new price to the same JHU students. Literally all they do is add a used-sticker to the textbooks and sell them for at times triple the price they paid.

What can you do about this? Use the free exchanges service on www.myfreebees.com that allows you to sell your textbooks to fellow classmates.  A lot of students know what classes they are taking next semester and would be willing to purchase your textbooks for much more than what Barnes and Noble will give you. These students would also be saving money in the process as they would not have to pay the marked-up Barnes and Noble price next fall.

If you are unable to sell your textbooks before you leave campus, hold onto your textbooks instead. Taking your textbooks back home is not that much of an inconvenience and you would receive a much higher price selling your textbooks to fellow JHU students through www.myfreebees.com in the fall.

As the semester ends and exam period begins the SGA is continuing its efforts to ensure that the reading period is kept free of assignments or classes.  Academic policies ban classes or exams during the reading period, even if the class votes to do so, etc.

Check your syllabus - if your instructor has assigned a makeup class, final exam, or any sort of assignment/work from MAY 3rd to 5th of this semester, please email academicaffairs@jhusga.com"

Good Luck on Exams and email academicaffairs@jhusga.com with any concerns you may have about any of your classes!

Sincerely,

JHU SGA
