Welcome to Hopkins!
Welcome Class of 2015!
The Johns Hopkins Student Government Association is happy to welcome you to campus! Orientation week has a lot going on. In addition to moving into your dorm, you’ll be busy buying books, meeting students, finding your way around Homewood, and figuring out how to make Hopkins home. It can all be overwhelming, but we’ve narrowed down some important FAQ’s and maps to make the transition that much easier.
The members SGA Executive board are eager to meet you and answer any of your questions. We’ll explain those and what SGA does for students next Tuesday, September 6th at 6 pm, in Mergenthaler 111, which is right next to Gilman Hall in the downstairs lecture room.
Here are some questions you may be wondering:
I’m lost! Where in the world is Olin Hall?
- You’ll get acclimated to Homewood Campus in no time. Here is a Campus Map to help you out until then
I’m sick. Where should I go?
- Our Health and Wellness Center is here for you. Newly located at 31st street and N. Charles St., call ahead (410-516-8270) for an appointment and they’ll see you for any ailment
I gotta eat something. Where can I use my swipes? What are dining dollars?
- The Fresh Food Café (FFC) requires one swipe of your J-Card for an all you can eat experience! Located next to AMR II, its ‘Late Night’ hours (10 pm- 12 am, Sunday through Thursday) are always a big hit. More Freshman Dining Info is available here.
I lost my J-Card…already.
- It happens! To remedy the problem we all experience (at least once), head to Garland Hall to the J-Card Office to get a new one for $15.
Do I have to walk back to my dorm late at night?
- No! The new Blue Jay Shuttle is available for transportation at night. The Blue Jay Shuttle operates on a fixed-route evening schedule in an area proximate to the Homewood campus. Check out www.nextbus.com for route maps and predictions. The fleet of vans depart from Mason Hall—the shuttle’s transportation hub—starting at 5:45 p.m. and every 30 minutes until 10:45 p.m. Beginning at 11:15 p.m., BJS reverts to on-demand point-to-point service. The phone number for dispatch is (410) 516-8700.
- Here is a Frat Map of all of the fraternities to make finding them a little easier.
Where do I buy books?
- Head to the JHU Barnes & Noble on 33rd street! You can buy your textbooks there or pre-order them through their website and they will have them waiting for you.
Who can I talk to about life after Hopkins?
- The Career Center in Garland Hall has great advisors and information to help you with course and career path decisions.
How can I be involved? I want to be a part of making Hopkins an even better place for students.
- Look into the SGA! Our meetings are in Mason Hall, Tuesdays at 7:30 and are open to anyone interested. Freshman senate elections are this September; come by and learn more!
